The Magnetic Hook Incident of 2026

🧲 The Magnetic Hook Incident of 2026

For years, I saw those magnetic hooks all over the cruise-hack lists.

You know the ones.

ā€œMust-have cruise essentials!ā€
ā€œBrilliant cabin organization hack!ā€
ā€œNever cruise without these!ā€

So naturally…we bought them.

We bought the cheapest ones we could find—I believe they were 25 pounds or something—because that’s how we roll.

Well, I put a baseball hat on one…and it slid right to the floor.

Clearly, those weren’t the right weight for our baseball hats.

And don’t even TRY to put a day bag or a jacket on those suckers!

Then I saw some cruise content creators talking about the 80–100-pound magnets, and I was all in.

I ordered them immediately.  They arrived the next day. I was thrilled.

And then I overachieved.

In my over-achieving-efficiency-stage-of-life brain, I thought I would be smart and go ahead and assemble the hooks.

They arrive attached to a magnet by the…well…other magnet.

You have to screw the hook into the magnet, so they arrive as this lovely, flat, compact little package.

But no.  Not for me.  I’m too efficient for that nonsense.

I don’t need that other packaging. I’ll just take the magnets off the other magnet and lose all that extra packaging.  I can put all the magnets together in a baggie.

Voila! Efficient.  Space-saving.  Brilliant.

Until two of them got stuck together.

And when I say stuck, I mean STUCK.  We couldn’t get them apart.  We tried.

And somewhere in the process of trying to get one of those little metal bastards unstuck…I pinched the hell out of my finger.

Did we eventually get them apart? I think so.  Honestly, by that point I was questioning every decision that had brought me to that moment.

So here’s my advice:

No. You do not need those hooks.

But…If you’re going to go rogue and decide you absolutely need magnetic hooks for your cruise cabin:  Get the 80–100-pound ones.

And KEEP THE MAGNET THEY COME ON.

Because apparently two magnetic hooks can decide to become one extremely annoying magnetic hook.

And if that happens, you’re going to need the original magnet—or possibly reinforcements.

I mean call-the-engineers’ reinforcements.

(No, don’t actually do that. They’ll hang pictures of you in their locker and laugh at you every day.)

And trust me…

You don’t want your cruise vacation to turn into a magnet extraction operation.

 Lessons Learned

🧲 Two magnetic hooks can apparently become one.

ā˜ļø Fingers are surprisingly easy to pinch.

🚢 You really don’t need every cruise hack you see on the internet.

šŸ˜‚ And sometimes the dumbest little things make the best cruise stories.
